Assam Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society as it was the first and only association of
Obstetrician & Gynaecologists of Assam. Later on the name was changed to Gauhati and
then to Guwahati Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society, known simply as GOGS in Assam.
The role of the society is to encourage and disseminate knowledge, education and
research in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, to pilot and promote preventive
and therapeutic services related to the practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for
betterment of the health of women and children in particular and the wellbeing of the
community in general. It also advocates the cause of reproductive health and rights
and to support and protect the interest of practitioners of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
in Guwahati. It is a constituent of Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecolgical
Societies of India (FOGSI). The society regularly organizes scientific meetings,
symposiums and Continuing Medical Education programs at Guwahati and other places.
The members of the society are actively associated to promoting the health & welfare
